Privacy policy

This policy explains how the SalamLink evaluation app handles information when two people use compatible SalamLink prototype gloves to begin a translated conversation.

In short: SalamLink has no advertising or user-profile system. During an active session, microphone audio and translation results are processed to provide live translation and to deliver the translated conversation to the intended participant.

Information used by the app

Microphone audio: voice audio is processed during an active translated session.
Translations and captions: translated text and audio are delivered to the intended conversation partner.
Language preference: the language you speak is saved on your phone and exchanged with the partner phone to establish the translation directions.
Glove information: the assigned glove’s Bluetooth identifier and name are saved on your phone so the app can reconnect to it.
Session and security information: temporary session identifiers, app-attestation tokens, network metadata, and error information may be processed to connect the two phones, prevent abuse, and diagnose failures.

How information is used and shared

SalamLink uses Google Firebase and Google Cloud infrastructure for app attestation, short-lived service credentials, and session relay, and Google Gemini services for live speech translation. Conversation output is shared with the intended participant as part of the feature you request. We do not sell personal information or use it for advertising.

Conversation content and retention

The app does not provide a conversation-history feature. SalamLink is designed not to persist microphone audio, captions, or translations in its own application database after the live session. Cloud providers may retain service, security, and request logs under their applicable terms and the project’s configured retention settings. Contact us if you need information about the settings that apply to the current beta.

Information stored on your phone

Your spoken-language choice, glove pairing, and a consumed-handshake marker are stored locally. Forgetting the glove clears its pairing record. Uninstalling the app clears its app-local data through the normal platform process.

Permissions

Microphone is used only to provide speech translation during a session.
Bluetooth is used to find, pair with, and communicate with the SalamLink glove.
Location permission on Android may be requested because SalamLink needs complete Bluetooth scan results, including the glove’s advertised name. SalamLink does not read GPS location for its translation feature.
Local network access on iPhone supports compatible local peer-session behavior.

Security

Network connections use encrypted transport. Peer relay messages are additionally protected by session encryption in the current app. No method of transmission is risk-free, so do not use SalamLink for emergency, medical, legal, or other safety-critical communication.

Children

SalamLink is not directed to children under 13. If you believe a child has provided personal information through the service, contact us.

Your choices and contact

You can deny microphone or Bluetooth access, end a session at any time, forget a paired glove, or uninstall the app. These choices may prevent the corresponding feature from working.
